ASPERGER’S SYNDROME IS NOT AUTISM
No, misogyny for your unnecessary feminizing terms meant to discredit “Tumblrina” and “Tumblrette” are undeniably feminine. And you called my friend “girl”, when ey are not a girl. That’s misgendering.
The more research is done, the more scientists understand about autism and how there are not any real differences between Aspergers and autism. It’s interesting because there’s really not a whole lot of difference between the studies of Kanner and those of Asperger. There are differences between people who are autistic because all people are different, you know, in case you’re unaware and thank that we’re all carbon copies of each other. No, I don’t find there to be any diagnostic difference between Rudy Simone and Temple Grandin or Donna Williams or Amy Sequenzia or Carly Fleischman. They are all autistic and the DSM agrees.
Most of us were diagnosed after the DSM-V was published. That doesn’t make Aspergers a distinguishable separate diagnosis.
This isn’t about severity. There are people who have more complex needs, like the ones you mentioned. That doesn’t make people who have less complex needs less autistic? Also I’m fairly certain that none of them would appreciate being used in such a way to support your Aspie elitist fucking bullshit.
Temple Grandin is verbal, has authored many articles on livestock handling as well as five books on autism specctrum disorder, designed facilities for livestock. Donna Williams is another accomplished author and musician. Both of these examples have Asperger’s syndrome.
There is a youtube user, kgaccount, who has a severely autistic adult son. His sensory is so disordered that he resorts to self-injury. He is nonverbal, and requires an aide. Compare to Daniel Tammet, mathematician and linguist. He speaks well over seven languages fluently and is able to perform complex calculations quickly. He is very verbal; in fact, he’s authored two books! He has Asperger’s syndrome.
No difference between autis(tic disorder) and Asperger’s, eh?
You (and your friend, at that) exhibit the characteristics of the standard Tumblrina. Diagnosed Asperger’s, yet demanding to be called autistic. Autism spectrum disorder is not the same as autistic disorder. By merging all the autisms into one big autism, you are creating a mess. Just like the DSM-V.I had a hunch that the Tumblrettas and Tumblrinas would take that huge autism merger and run!
And to your little friend: “Girl, bye” is an expression used for dismissing bullshit. Such as separating the autisms being “Ableism” and the claim that Asperger’s syndrome = Autism.
As I’ve said, I know who all of those people are. I’ve read many books written by autistic people. You’re looking at this from an external view instead of an internal one.
Aspergers and autism look different TO YOU from the outside. That doesn’t mean that diagnostically, they are different. Clearly the DSM says that they are not. And whether you agree with the DSM or not, I find it highly suspect that you can so easily dismiss the predominant text on which diagnosis is based and then get all snippy about “Tumblrinas” (whatever the hell that term is meant to imply). So it’s okay for you to act like you’re the exception to the rule and you’re not like THOSE autistics, clearly. And you can dismiss the DSM but the second someone talks about the autistic mind outside of the medical model of disability, you attempt to distance yourself from us.
I know the expression. It doesn’t make it any less gendered. If you are a trans person and you have grown up being misgendered your whole life, it is absolutely not an overreaction to react negatively to anything in which someone refers to you as a girl or a boy, whatever the case may be. I know others have the same feelings about the words “dude” or “bro”. It’s not neutral. And in this case, it’s absolutely being wielded in a way that reeks of misogyny.
Keep talking in circles and spewing bullshit. You think you’re better than the rest of tumblr, clearly. Go submerge yourself in the mire that is 4chan or Wrong planet. I’m sure they’d love to have an Aspie elitist like you.
countesclarmonde: yoooo really quick, stop trying to pull the “tumblrina”=uneducated thing because if you were any more informed and logical, you would know that the definition of diagnoses (and the names) change all the time, so if you’re basing your entire argument (and it seems like you are) on the fact that the definition of “autism” changed to reflect what is now understood about autism (that it’s a spectrum disorder, not just one cookie cutter mess of symptoms) you should get off your damn high horse and stop attacking the rest of the autistic community for being right.
